What Roger Clemens Should Say to the Congressional Hearing

5 February, 2008 by Matt Robison

Independent Country has crafted a great hypothetical response for Roger Clemens to use when he appears before the congressional hearing(aka, inquisition, witch hunt, etc.) about steroid use.

Mr. Chairman, I have read the Constitution and it does not grant you authority to ask the question or hold this hearing on my alleged steroid use. Therefore, I will exercise my rights as an American citizen under the Tenth Amendment, and my natural rights as a human being, and refuse to answer it.

The Constitution you have sworn your allegiance to gives the Congress few and specific powers. Prohibiting individual drug use is not one of them. This is clearly left to the states and to “the people,” as the Tenth Amendment says.

Well, it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I was amazed to watch the testimony I must say. What amazed me most was how the Republicans all got on McNamee and the Democrats all got on Clemens. What a great waste of time that was and a further showing of how this government only focuses on things that will get them in the spotlight, but will solve none of the major issues.

And I didn’t know that these Congressmen were co-commissioners of the MLB. Wow!

The sheer arrogance of these crooks is truly astounding. They like to flex their muscles, and bully innocent people while they do it.

No congressman should care if one person is upset. The congressman should respond if enough constituents are concerned about any issue that they have organized an interest group to put forward their ideas.

Thanks have a great idea on this nice topic. They were at the hearing because of Cansaco’s book. At the the time there was no prove any of them took steroids. Palmeiro tested postive later, but none of the others did. Why don’t people pay attention to the facts instead of saying things they have no idea about.

People don’t listen to the whole story, and then check out the facts for themselves. I think this is why we are at war with Iraq right now.

My mother forced the closure of a military base once by sending in a complete documented report on how much money could be saved by diverting the forces at the base to other existing bases, and sent it to all the Senators and Representatives on the Armed Forces committees, who did exactly what I described, and in the next years review, moved to close the base - a no-brainer with Mom’s documentation - they turned it over to their staff, the staff verified the documentation, and they saved the money.

Multiple people corroborating this help, as it gives more perspective to the report, but it falls back to what the congressional representative chooses to act on. I am writing a research paper on steroids in baseball and I want to watch the complete Roger Clemens congressional hearing.

The congressmen and women were easier on Roger than McNamee. Especially since there were comments to Roger like You were my hero” “You will be going to heaven” “what jersey will you be wearing to the HOF”, etc.

Why are people unsure about Roger Clemens drug use but are certain Barry Bonds used drugs?

we are now seeing the chickens come to roost from so called free trade. A lot of ugly things are going to come out with this investigation…including how a foreign company influences our politicians.
